I’m a big fan of Microdermabrasion. I used to get a microderm facial once a month for years and it truly transformed my skin! There are so many great benefits that come from it. For those of you who follow my instagram account, you’ve seen me talk about this before. It helps get rid of acne scars, sun damage, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. Not only that but did you know that with microdermabrasion, your skin is able to absorb 20x more active skincare ingredients than without. But Microderm facials are expensive, especially if you get them once a month. Not to worry, there is a great alternative if you’re on a budget.
PMD or Personal Microderm is an at-home skincare tool that gives you the same benefits and results as getting a microdermabrasion facial by a professional. It’s easy to use and they offer different devices depending on the intensity you prefer. I bought the PMD Pro about nine months ago and I can honestly say I am truly happy with it. Of course this device does have its pros and cons so let’s review them shall we?
Instead of spending $2-3k a year on facials, you can make an investment of $200 to buy a PMD that you can use at home at your convenience. I know $200 dollars is still a big chunk of change but think of how much money you’re saving in the long run. Over time you will have to replace the crystal disks that go inside your PMD (these crystal disks are what actually exfoliate your skin) but it will only cost you $20 bucks.
They say you should switch them every 45–60 days but I switch mine every 3-4 months and everything seems to work fine! Second thing, it’s gentle and easy to use. I know some people don’t trust themselves and think a professional should be doing a treatment like this but believe me, if I can do this so can you.
Third and most obvious reason, you get THE SAME benefits of a microdermabrasion procedure as you would getting it done by a professional.
Consistency. Since the device is so gentle and easy to use, the intensity of the treatment is different from what you would get at a spa or dermatologist office. Therefore, you have to use this device weekly instead of monthly. If you get lazy and slack off on doing this every week, then honey, you won’t see the results you desire.
The second con is that you’re not getting all of the benefits you would from getting a facial. Yes, I did mention earlier that you get ALL THE SAME benefits from a microdermabrasion procedure and yes that is true, but you don’t have someone following up with extractions or a shoulder rub while you have a face mask on. Those are luxuries and luxuries come with a price.
With that said, if you don’t mind not having all the bells and whistles a facial comes with then this device is perfect for you. It’s straight to the point and does exactly what it says it does, which is always a win in my book!
